According to the Federal Reserve, appraisal reviews "have to find out whether the appraisal or evaluation is fitting for the transaction, the liability of the transaction, and whether the process by which the collateral valuation is obtained guarantees independence and quality." They "should also show whether the appraisal or evaluation report is true to the engagement letter, which gives an account of the capacity of the appraisal assignment." The Federal Reserve also states that "some banks augment regular reviews with post-funding surveys of appraisal quality for a number of their high-risk or high-value affairs as a channel to assist in identifying valuation disputes."
